Waipio wins OYSL title

The Waipio Panthers beat the Ewa Beach Cardinals, 26-6, at the Mililani High School field to capture the Termite Tackle Division (9-11 years old) of the Oahu Youth Sports League.

Members of the team coached by Scott Castanares are: Chris Barsatan, Giovanni Buie, Keelan Cabison, Lyle Castanares, Zachary Cheek, Mene Coffin, Joshua Cruz, Aaron Dutton, Marvin Foster, Travis Hale, Mason Hulama-Kakalia, Joshua Kolii, Isaiha Lawelawe, David Nicholson, Kekoa Osorio, Colton Raposa, Kawika Seguerre, Preston-Shadoe Smythe, Travis Smythe, Jordan Torres, Neva Tyrell-Edra and Dylan Warren.

Assistant coaches are Robert Raposa, John Torres, Scott Nicholson, Robert Warren and Shane Smythe.

Latin Hawaii wins title

Latin Hawaii edged Amazon, 4-3, Sunday to capture the Men's Island Soccer Organization Fall 2000 title.

Amazon took a 2-1 lead in the first half behind goals by Cesar Jube and Biola Mendes. But Latin Hawaii scored the next three goals, two of which were penalty kicks by Nick Chapin, who was named 2000 MVP.

Lanikai Tuesday beat Dawgs, 8-1, to take third place.

Baseball season tickets

University of Hawaii baseball season tickets went on sale yesterday at the Stan Sheriff ticket Office.

Prices are $185 for all ages in the blue and orange levels. Adult seats in the red level are $145, while senior citizen and student seats are $120. Call 944-BOWS for more information.

Coconut Classic

Hawaii-Hilo 80, Embry-Riddle 73:

At Hilo, Alan Thomas scored 24 points and nabbed 10 rebounds in 38 minutes as the Vulcans (2-4) won their second game in a row.

Ryan Rothrock's 22 points led the Eagles (12-1), which experienced their first loss of the season.

In women's action yesterday, Western Montana beat Rio Grande, 68-64, in overtime, and Minnesota St.-Mankota beat Abilene Christian, 64-55.

The tournament continues today for the women with Minnesota State-Mankota playing American International at 11 a.m., and for the men with Embry Riddle facing Rio Grande at 1 p.m. All games will be at Hilo's Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
