Property assessments
due at Oahu homes
next week

If you disagree with the figures,
you can file an appeal with the city

Star-Bulletin staff

Homeowners and other Oahu property owners should be getting their new assessment notices from the city's Real Property Assessment Office next week.

The assessments, which are being mailed out today, determine the value of the property and are used to determine property taxes.

Property owners who do not receive an assessment should call the property assessment office at 527-5520.

Those who disagree with the property assessment or exemption may contact the office to discuss it or file an appeal. Deadline for appeals is Jan. 16, 2001.

An appeal also can be made in person at 842 Bethel St., basement level, between 7:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. daily.

Forms for appeal can be found at www.co.honolulu.hi.us/rpa/.

Written appeals should be signed, and include the identity of the property; the grounds for objection; separate values for property, land and building; and a $25 deposit payable to the City and County of Honolulu.
