Back in the Day

TWENTY YEARS AGO THIS WEEK

Bullet Maryknoll knocked off Radford, 58-48, in the finals of the Farrington Invitational basketball tournament behind the play of 6-foot-7 center Francis Fletcher.

In a semifinal win over Kamehameha -- which was led by multisport star Pono Ma'a -- Fletcher scored 10 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, blocked three shots and had four steals. Against the Rams, he scored 12 points.

The Spartans, coached by Tony Sellitto, also got big production from guard Ricky Leong and forward Kelan McGuire.

Maryknoll ended up losing to Punahou, 41-40, in the state tournament championship game that season.
