Hula dancer Fran Komomua (above) greets Hawaii's newest
cruise ship, the 34,000-ton ms Patriot, at Honolulu Harbor's
Pier 9 this morning. The ship will carry up to 1,212 passengers
and a crew of 477 on seven-night Hawaii cruises. American
Classic Voyages Inc. bought it for $114.5 million for its new
United States Lines subsidiary and spent $21 million on
renovations. After a day of welcoming events, the ship
will run a nighttime cruise tomorrow along Oahu for
donors to five island charities and start its regular
cruise schedule Saturday.
