Star-BulletinUnder a plea agreement with the state, Cheryl Mosier, 45, pleaded guilty yesterday to manslaughter, punishable by 20 years in prison.
Mosier told Circuit Judge Richard Perkins that she "knowingly" caused the death of her husband, Harbin Richard Mosier, 44, while under the influence of an extreme mental and emotional disturbance.
Her attorney, Howard Luke, said Mosier, against his advice, chose to accept the plea agreement and take responsibility for her husband's death.
Mosier is not the same person she was on April 4, Luke said. "She was enveloped in a cloud of depression and confusion and a great deal of overwhelming emotional pain. The pain she feels today is very deep, profound remorse."
According to court records, on April 4, Harbin Mosier told his wife he was having an extramarital affair with a California woman that had produced a child. He told Mosier that he was going to leave her when their youngest of two sons turned 18.
Cheryl Mosier is accused of stabbing her husband in the neck at their Wekiu Street home. She was found later that evening with self-inflicted stab wounds, lying next to her dead husband when paramedics and police responded to a 911 call to the couple's home.
Under the agreement, Mosier will be sentenced to 20 years imprisonment on Feb. 2.
