Oahu publisher buys Hawaii Remodeling

PacificBasin Communications Inc., the Oahu-based publisher of Hawaii Business magazine, has acquired the monthly home improvement magazine Hawaii Remodeling. Terms of the deal with Jim and Lynda Cook, the husband-and-wife owners of the magazine, were not disclosed.

CFO to retire at Cheap Tickets

The chief financial officer of Cheap Tickets Inc. is retiring early next year, the company said. Dale Jorgenson, who has been part of Cheap Ticket's management for the past three years, is retiring in mid-February. He said he plans to devote more time to his family and personal interests.

PepsiCo in talks to buy Quaker Oats

NEW YORK -- PepsiCo Inc. stock dropped sharply today on word that it has resumed talks to buy Quaker Oats Co., the maker of Gatorade and Cap'n Crunch cereal, for about $14 billion in stock. The offer being considered mirrors the one Chicago-based Quaker rejected in early November, a source familiar with the talks said yesterday, on condition of anonymity. In the interim, both Atlanta-based Coca-Cola Co. and the French food conglomerate Danone SA also backed away from separate possible deals for Quaker Oats.
