City wreath contest
celebrates the season
Star-Bulletin
The deadline for submitting wreaths for the city's annual Christmas Wreath Contest is 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Bring entries to the Lane Gallery on the Diamond Head end, ground floor at Honolulu Hale.
The theme for the 15th annual competition is "Celebrate the Season." One winner will be selected from three divisions: adult, children and youth; as well as open. In the last category, any individual or group may submit wreaths that best incorporate the idea of "Visions of Sugar Plum and Spam Musubi" into their entry.
Contestants (group or individual) may win only one award, although there is no limit on the amount of wreaths contestants may submit.
The "Best in Show" Mayor's Holly Award winner will receive a cash prize of $200. First place winners in each category will receive $150; the prize for all second place winners is $100, and $75 goes to all third place winners. Six honorable mentions will receive $25 each..
Entry forms are available at any park, satellite city hall or at the Office of Information in Honolulu Hale.
Judging will be based on workmanship, creativity and materials used. Wreaths must be circular with a hole in the center, a minimum of 12 inches in diameter, and include a loop for hanging. Call Ellen Katoda at 547-7395 or Peter Radulovich at 523-4674 for more information.
Judging will be held on Thursday and the winner will be announced 10 a.m. Friday at the tree-topping ceremony in the Honolulu Hale courtyard.
