Coastal management
meetings scheduled

Star-Bulletin staff

Statewide workshops on Coastal Zone Management continue through Jan. 11.

Every three years, the state applies for federal funds to help with 11 management concerns: coastal wetlands management and protection; natural hazards; public access; marine debris; cumulative and secondary impacts of growth and development; special management area planning; ocean resource planning; siting of coastal energy and government facilities; aquaculture; endangered species; and marine protected areas.

"The information gathered from this community-based effort will assist CZM Hawaii in determining what enhancement areas and related projects or programs should be funded," said David Blane, director of the state Office of Planning.

"Also, we want to ensure that we respond to coastal zone concerns that are of top priority to our residents."
