Boy stows away
on mainland flights, lands
in juvenile facility

A 15-year-old boy from Hawaii snuck his way onto three flights between the islands and California this week.

But on his fourth try, a full flight forced him to hide in the lavatory, which foiled his plan.

The boy told police he became a stowaway after an argument with his stepfather.

He went to the airport, stood in line behind adults who had children, and simply took an empty seat once he got onto a plane.

The boy flew from Honolulu to Los Angeles on a Northwest flight, and returned to Honolulu on another Northwest flight.

Then he hopped a Delta Air Lines flight from Honolulu to San Francisco, but he was found out after he boarded a United Airlines jet to return to Honolulu.

A flight attendant discovered him in a lavatory and insisted he return to his seat. Unable to do so, the boy surrendered and confessed he was a stowaway.

The boy was arrested Wednesday and held in a juvenile facility near San Francisco International Airport pending a court hearing.
