HILO - Republican Big Island mayoral front-runner Harry Kim was cautious before the first printout of election results this evening, but Republican Party regular Elroy Osorio was already seeing benefits to the party from Kim’s prospective election.

“Harry’s a special person. I think he will be instrumental in building this party up,” Osorio said.

Kim defeated Democrat Fred C. Holschuh by more than 10,000 votes tonight.

Others were noting Kim’s preference for campaigning alone.

“Harry asked us not to help,” said his sister Han Sung Barry. “He wanted to do it it on his own.”

Supporter Horace Farr said he offer to set up a campaing sign for Kim at a choice site on a main Hilo Street. Kim said no.

Farr decided to post the sign anyway. “I finally figured out, you don’t ask the man. You just do it,” he said.
