Murakami Les Murakami, the 30-year head baseball coach at the University of Hawaii, suffered a stroke late yesterday afternoon and was admitted to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition, the university announced.

Star-BulletinDoctors will be observing and running tests on Murakami over the next four or five days.
The UH Sports Information Office will issue daily updates on the condition of the 64-year-old coach.
In May, Murakami announced he was going to retire after the 2001 season. He has been head coach of the Rainbows since 1971.
In his 30 seasons, Murakami's teams have compiled a 1,079-570-4 record, a .655 winning percentage.
Under his guidance, the Rainbows won six Western Athletic Conference titles and advanced to the championship game of the 1980 College World Series.
This past January Murakami was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame along with five others.
