FOOTBALL: The Oahu Interscholastic Association has reached its semifinals; on Friday, Waianae plays Castle and Kahuku meets Kaimuki at Aloha Stadium. THE BIG GAMES
St. Louis-Kamehameha II on tap
But the really big game is St. Louis vs. Kamehameha, Round II, on Saturday. Some think these are really the top two teams in the state. They meet Saturday, 7:45 p.m., at Aloha Stadium.
The first go-round, the Crusaders beat the Warriors, 31-6. If St. Louis wins again, it clinches the Interscholastic League of Honolulu championship and accompanying state berth. If Kamehameha wins, it takes the ILH second-round title, and the teams playoff for the league title next week.
VOLLEYBALL: The OIA boys' and girls' semifinals are tomorrow at the Blaisdell Center, starting at 4 p.m. The OIA title games are Saturday, with the boys playing at 5:30 p.m. and the girls at 7 p.m.
Former Farrington football star Patrick Kesi was chosen in the 24th round of the XFL draft by the Las Vegas Outlaws. Other former Hawaii prep stars drafted were DL Taase Faumui (Farrington), DL Mike Ulufale (Campbell) and WR Kaipo McGuire (St. Louis). Ulufale was chosen by the San Francisco Demons (34th round), Faumui by the Los Angeles Xtreme (37th), and McGuire by the Birmingham Bolts (45th). The new league begins play in February. ... Iris Moon (Hana) and Edward Ruhland (Hilo) are the state winners in the 2000 Wendy's High School Heisman Program -- joining 100 other state finalists from around the country for a chance to win the Wendy's High School Heisman Award. Twelve national finalists will be invited to New York City to participate in the Heisman Trophy festivities next month and the winners will be chosen Dec. 8. ... The Punahou girls' volleyball team is No. 19 in the Pacific Region in the HighWiredSports.com volleyball rankings. St. Francis slipped five notches to No. 21 in the Pacific. HERE AND THERE
