Star-BulletinFernandes was honored by the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts with a lifetime achievement award in 1991.
She and her sister, Irmgard Aluli, were original members of the Annie Kerr Trio in the 1920s and she sang soprano with The Farden Sisters of the 1950s.
After moving to Hilo with her late husband, Ernest H. Fernandes, she studied and performed hula with Helen Desha Beamer. In more recent years, she was with Na Kupuna Singers.
Fernandes died Oct. 24 at the age of 91.
She was born in Lahaina, Maui, one of the 13 children of Charles K. and Annie Farden. She graduated from St. Andrew's Priory.
She was recently honored as a 50-year member and former member of the executive council of Hale O Na Ali'i O Hawaii.
She was also a member of Ahahui Kaahumanu, former president of Native Sons and Daughters of Hawaii, and a member of Epiphany Episcopal Church in Kaimuki.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Diamond Head Cemetery chapel. Friends may call after 8 a.m.
She is survived by sons Charles, Frank and Pakala; brothers Rudolf and L.H. "Buddy" Farden; sisters Irmgard K. Aluli and Edna P. Bekeart; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
