Star-BulletinMalkovich plays F.W. Murnau, who directed the classic 1922 horror film "Nosferatu, Eine Symphonie des Grauen" ("Nosferatu, A Symphony of Terror"). Dafoe plays actor Max Schreck.
"Shadow of the Vampire" is a fictional depiction of the filming of "Nosferatu." As the German director begins filming his version of "Dracula," the cast and crew begin to wonder about the actor playing the vampire, Schreck, especially as strange things happen on and around the set.
"Shadow of the Vampire" is slated for Los Angeles and New York releases Dec. 29. It had its world premiere as part of the 2000 Cannes Film Festival's Directors' Fortnight series in May, and its North American premiere at the 27th Annual Telluride Film Festival in early September.
One of the producers of this film was actor Nicolas Cage.
"Nosferatu" is considered one of the best films to come out of the German Expressionist silent era.
