The Village Park Tennis Club won the mens 3.0 title, while the Tennis Menace won the women's 3.0 championship.
After winning its round-robin flight, Village Park defeated Napa, Calif., 3-2, to move to the finals where it topped Mechanicsburg, Pa., 3-2.
The Tennis Menace took a similar route, winning its round-robin flight and taking a pair of 3-2 matches -- from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, in the semifinals and Pelham, Ala. in the title match.
Village Park team members are captain Fidel Hufana, Dominador Bayani, Rolando Casino, Freddie Eder, Ross Hamamura, Carlos Mallari, Al Orion, Arnold Pontillas, Dionisio Raquel, Darryll Salondaka, Ponciano Tolentino and Mauricio Visitacion.
Tennis Menace team members are captain Gaye Fujimoto, Ivy Abomonga, Cissy Chow, Dale Daida, Leigh Daida, Elaina Hall, Stefanie Higa, Stacy Kikuchi, Sonnie Koko, Valerie Nagaji, Wilynn Tong, Min Jung Wisniewski, Jennie Yamaki and Laura Yee.
Individual ticket sales for the 2000-01 University of Hawaii men's basketball season began today. Basketball tickets go on sale today
Tickets may be purchased at the Stan Sheriff Center Box Office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, or by calling Ticket Plus at 526-4400.
Ticket Plus will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday thereafter. They also are open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tickets also are available at Foodland and Sack and Save outlets from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Convenience fees may apply.
Tickets will be available for all UH exhibition and regular season games, except for the Rainbow Classic. Ticket packages for the Classic will be available Dec. 4.
The Rainbows open the regular season Nov. 17 against perrenial power Louisville at the Stan Sheriff Center.
XTERRA win for Tobin
Michael Tobin of Boise, Idaho, won the XTERRA World Championship triathlon yesterday at Wailea, Maui, clinching the Nissan XTERRA point series as well.Tobin, who placed second last year, finished the grueling course in 2 hours, 30 minutes and 53 seconds. Nearly three minutes behind was Mike Vine of Canada (2:33.10). The women's pro winner was Kerstin Weule of Colorado (3:07:04) whilt Melanie McQuaid second (3:09.17).
The event was comprised of a 1.5-kilometer swim off Wailea Beach, a 30-kilometer mountain bike ride up the slopes of Haleakala, and an 11-kilometer trail run back down to Wailea.
Peter Hursty was Hawaii's top finisher, 17th overall (2:52:33)
