Riding High

By Ronen Zilberman, Star-Bulletin
A surfer rides a wave today during high surf at Haleiwa Alii Beach
Park. North Shore lifeguards expected to make fewer rescues today
as high surf diminished. Also, the more-experienced surfers usually
come out during the week as compared with the weekends, said Capt.
Bodo Van Der Leeden, head of the city's Ocean Safety Division from
Kahuku to Kaena Point. Lifeguards rescued 20 people in yesterday's
10- to 15-foot surf. An advisory remains in effect on northwest-facing
shores, but surf today is at 8-10 feet, Van Der Leeden said.
As of midmorning today, lifeguards had no rescue calls.
