Kickoff: Tomorrow, 7 p.m., Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. WAHINE PLAYBOOK
vs. Texas Christian Horned Frogs
Coaches: Hawaii, Pinsoom Tenzing, 7th season (46-70-8, .403); Texas Christian, David Rubinson, 15th season (125-141-15, .473).
Season records: Hawaii (4-11-2 overall, 1-3-1 conference); Texas Christian, (8-7-1 overall, 3-2-0 conference).
Series record: Hawaii leads the series, 2-0, winning the only conference encounter, 2-0, last year at TCU.
Match keys: The Horned Frogs can clinch a Western Athletic Conference tournament berth with a victory. They have won three of their last four WAC matches, losing only to front-runner Southern Methodist. Both conference defeats have been on the road and they are 2-5-1 overall away from home ... The Wahine backs are to the wall. Even if they defeat TCU, they still may need to beat or tie a very talented SMU team Sunday to qualify for the WAC tournament. The playing status of senior goalkeeper Demarre Sanchez is critical. She strained her left knee Monday against Oral Roberts. That's the same knee she injured earlier in the season, causing her to miss four matches. If Sanchez can't play, Veronica Flores probably would take over in the goal and that puts a damper on the Wahine offense. Flores is adept at creating scoring opportunities and works well with striker Arlene Devitt. A key for the Wahine is to not panic, stay composed and make use of the whole field.
Top players: Hawaii, Arlene Devitt, freshman striker (7 goals, 3 assists), Veronica Flores, junior striker (3 goals, 4 assists); Jennifer Starsiak, junior striker (3 goals, 2 assists) and Megan Lytle, senior midfielder (1 goal, 3 assists) ... Texas Christian, Sherry Dick, sophomore striker (9 goals, 1 assist); Jennifer Maunder, senior midfielder (3 goals, 1 assist), Jenny Swanson, freshman midfielder/striker (3 goals, 1 assist) and Shannon Wagner, freshman goalkeeper (5 shutouts, 1.54 goals allowed average).
Interesting facts: TCU defeated San Jose State and Fresno State to conclude its home schedule last weekend, with Sherry Dick scoring two goals in each match ... Dick leads the WAC in shots attempted (79) ... Head coach David Rubinson is a TCU graduate. He took over the men's program in 1981 and started the women's program in 1986.
