Funeral Saturday
for former Taiwan
consul general

Te-Chieh Poo, Taiwan consul general to Hawaii in 1971-76, died Oct. 8 at Queen's Medical Center. He was 78 .

He was born in Kaifeng, Honan, China.He was a journalist for several years before joining the foreign service in Taiwan in 1951. Poo was stationed in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Hawaii was his last post abroad.

Poo, who had suffered from Parkinson's disease the last six years, died of pneumonia.

He is survived by his wife Jean; daughter Gloria Kern; sons, David and John, and six grandchildren.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Saturday at Borthwick Mortuary. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Manoa Chinese Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palolo Chinese Home or the Golden Ager Association of Hawaii.


Cody "Nalu" Akita-Nakagawa, 7, of Kihei, Maui, died Saturday in Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born in Lihue. Albert Cabreira, 77, of Hilo, a retired tour bus driver for the former Slim Holt Tours and Jack's Tours, died Oct. 10 at home. He was born in Ookala, Hawaii. Alfredo "Pidong" Eclipse, 91, of Kekaha, Kauai, a clerk at Kekaha Store, died last Wednesday in Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital. He was born in the Philippines. He is survived by son Alfredo "Sonny" Jr.; daughters Dolores "Dolly" Gregory, Gloria Quinto, Nena Postmus, Linda McDannel and Lillian "Lani" Eclipse; brother Leleng, 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Aurelio A. Fiesta, 65, of Waipahu, a landscaper, died Oct. 5 in St. Francis-West Medical Center. He was born in the Philippines. Raymond Garcia, 66, of Honolulu died Oct. 10 in Honolulu. He was born in Lahaina. Anthony Gouveia Jr., 61, of Honolulu, a truck driver with the film industry in Hawaii, died Monday in Straub Clinic and Hospital. He was born in Puunene, Maui.
