Auntie Aloha soy right

Auntie Aloha is sold on soy as well as on the charity Karing for Kids. She's lent her name and image to a benefit cookbook, "Auntie Aloha's A Taste of Soy," being sold to benefit the HopeLine, the Christian charity's advice line for young people.

Auntie Aloha is sort of a composite representing Pearl Country Club Team Vision, which sponsors soy tasting sessions on the second Tuesday of each month.

All their dishes, as well as the recipes in the cookbook, feature Nutrition for Life International foods, a line of soy-replacement products made of dehydrated whole soy flour. The products are sold by independent distributors, including the Pearl Country Club Team.

The model for Auntie's face, by the way, was the mother of a friend of the group. "We wanted someone who looked like an 'Auntie,' " says team member Ele Taira, an employee of the Hawaii Newspaper Agency.

The cookbook sells for $10, with proceeds-less-costs going to HopeLine. To order, or for information on soy tastings, call Taira at 836-4994 or email her at elet@juno.com. Books may be ordered by mail (include $2 postage); write: Ele's, 1015 Ala Napunani St., No. 701, Honolulu, HI 96818.
