BYUH sweeps Wildcats
No. 8 BYU-Hawaii beat visiting Central Washington yesterday, 15-8, 15-6, 15-8, in a PacWest contest.The Seasiders (9-4, 5-1) were paced by All-American Vanessa Valansi's 13 kills and 11 digs.
Vulcans top Lady Jacks
The University of Hawaii-Hilo beat Humboldt State, 15-4, 14-16, 15-9, 15-4, yesterday at Hilo in a PacWest women's volleyball match.Sara Pilgreen pounded 19 kills for the Vulcans, who improved to 5-11, 1-7. The Lady Jacks fell to 1-15, 1-9.
Chaminade falls in four
Chaminade dropped a four-game women's volleyball match to Western Oregon yesterday after winning the first game.The Wolves (6-10) rebounded for a 10-15, 15-7, 16-14, 15-5 win.
Juliann Hastert led Chaminade (3-13) with 13 kills.
Weightlifting at Warehouse
The Hawaii Open Weightlifting Championships will be held today from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Ward Warehouse Amphitheater Stage.Competitors range in age from 13 to 52. Fifteen members of Team Hawaii Olympic Weightlifting will compete.
Lumpkin, Lee at Na Koa
University of Hawaii associate head coach/linebackers George Lumpkin and wide receivers coach Ron Lee are the featured speakers for the Na Koa Football Club's meeting Monday.Lumpkin and Lee will review Saturday's home game against SMU and will talk about the upcoming road game against Rice.
Lunch is at 11:30 a.m. with the meeting scheduled for noon.
The cost is $10 for Na Koa members and $15 for non-members.
Emme to talk NFL story
Emme Tomimbang and guest co-host June Jones, the University of Hawaii football coach, will talk to former National Football League players on the next "Emme's Island Moments" to air Thursday at 7 p.m. on KGMB 9.They will talk with Nuu Faaola, Rich Miano, Jesse Sapolu and Kale Ane about their triumphs and tragedies after their football careers ended.
Tomimbang will talk with NFL agent Leigh Steinberg and NFL executives regarding their roles in preparing athletes for "Life After the Game."
QB Club meets Monday
Four guest speakers are scheduled for the Honolulu Quarterback Club's Monday luncheon at 11:30 a.m. at the Pagoda Restaurant.University of Hawaii head football coach June Jones and special teams coach Dennis McKnight will speak, along with UH associate athletic director Marilyn Moniz-Kahoohanohano and new UH women's track coach Carmyn James.
The club will also honor the male and female sports persons of the month --UH Wahine volleyball sophomore hitter Lily Kahumoku, who has helped lead the team to a 14-0 record, and U.S. women's water polo assistant coach Chris Duplanty, who earned a silver medal at the Olympic Games in Sydney.
Polo finale at Waimanalo
The Honolulu Polo Club's final match of the season is tomorrow at the Waimanalo Polo Field.The gate opens at 1 p.m. and action begins at 2:30 p.m.

Village Park to nationals
A men's tennis team from Village Park Tennis Club in Waipahu will play in the USA League Tennis 3.0 National Championships in Tucson, Ariz., from Oct. 19-22.The team consists of Fidel Hufana, Rolando Casino, Ross Hamamura, Carlos Mollari, Arnold Pontillas, Darryll Salondaka, Ponciano Tolentino, Dominador Bayani, Freddie Eder, Lito Macadangdang, Al Orion, Dionisio Raquel and Mauricio Visitacion.
Isle team in 3.0 nationals
The women's tennis team, "A Tennis Menace," will represent Hawaii in the USA League Tennis 3.0 Adult National Championships Oct. 19-22 in Tucson, Ariz.Team members are captain Gaye Fujimoto, Cissy Chow, Ann Chun, Stefanie Higa, Sonnie Koko, Wilynn Tong, Min Jung Wisniewski and Laura Yee of Honolulu, Ivy Abamonga of Waipahu, Dale and Leigh Daida of Mililani, Elaina Hall of Kailua, and Stacy Kikuchi, Valerie Nagaji and Jennie Yomaki of Pearl City.
