Triathletes thrash

Competitors in Kailua-Kona begin the 2.4-mile swim
today as part of the 22nd Ironman Triathlon World
Championship. More than 1,500 triathletes from
around the world are competing in the swim, a
112-mile bike race and 26.2-mile running marathon.
The event covers 140.6 total miles on the Big Island.
Its Love-a-Dog Month

Kona, with Noriko Panek, a Hawaiian Humane Society
volunteer, joined other dogs looking for a home yesterday
at Tamarind Park downtown. The society is offering a
microchip deal and more during October, Love-A-Dog
Month. Eve Holt says that of the six dogs presented at
the adopt-a-dog event, four have been adopted.
