Hawaii Republicans are continuing with a series of campaign rallies around the state.

Tomorrow, GOP Chairwoman Linda Lingle will introduce the Republican candidates in the Makiki area at a rally at Roosevelt High School from 6 to 8 p.m.

The event features speeches by Sam Aiona, running for the 24th House District; Mark Hunsaker, 25th House District; David Pang, 26th House District and Kenneth Akamine, 27th House District. Also speaking will be Aaron Peterson, who is running for the 12th Senate District. There will be free chili-and-rice dinners, entertainment and door prizes.

HIRONO ON KAUAI:

Lt. Gov. Mazie Hirono is on Kauai this week, speaking at the opening session of the Western Regional Clubhouse Conference on Friday.

Dr. Linda Fox, state Adult Mental Health Division chief, is also expected to speak at the meeting.

The clubhouse is a psychosocial rehabilitation program, which provides services for those recovering from mental illness. There are 300 clubhouse organizations in 28 countries, according to conference organizers.

NEW POST:

Sen. Avery Chumbley, who represents portions of Maui and Kauai, has been named vice chairman of the criminal justice committee for the Assembly of State Issues.

The assembly is part of the National Conference of State Legislators, which meets three times a year on the mainland.

The committee will review and discuss various reform measures ... that will help restore public faith in the system," he said.

The committee is expected to work on how state laws attack problems of gang crimes, access to criminal records and hate crimes.
