Miranda advance

Hawaii's Rusty Keaulana and Dino Miranda advanced through the round of 64 yesterday in the Oxbow World Longboard Championship at Praia Do Rosa, Santa Catarina yesterday.

Both Keaulana and Miranda are former champions of the event.

Bonga Perkins and Kekoa Uemura were among the other Hawaii surfers to advance.

Chaminade loses in four

Central Washington defeated the Chaminade University women's volleyball team in four games, 15-7, 15-6, 7-15, 15-6, yesterday at Nicholson Pavilion in Ellensburg, Wash.

Cerena Laurence powered the Central Washington attack with 15 kills, and she hit .522.

Audrey Brady slammed 12 kills for Chaminade.

Kauai Invitational set

The Kauai Invitational Golf Tournament will be held Nov. 11-12 at the Wailua Golf Course.

The tournament will include a professional flight, a championship flight, and an optional pro-am.

Hoops clinic for girls

Awinter basketball clinic is being offered for girls ages 9-18 at Sacred Hearts Academy.

The clinic will focus on fundamental skills.

The cost is $35 per participant.

The clinic dates are Nov. 5, 12, 19 and 26, Dec. 3, 10, 17, 23 and 30 and Jan. 7, 14, 21 and 28.

Hawaii hockey in Vegas

Several Hawaii in-line hockey teams are in Las Vegas, taking part in the 2000USAHockey In-Line Cup.

Two of those teams recorded wins yesterday.

In Division III, Hawaii's Steelheads tipped the Belkin Bulldogs of California, 5-3, while the 50th State Sharks defeated the Cyclones of California, 8-2.

In the master's division (30-and-over), Hawaii's Aces Wild lost to the Polar Bears of Texas, 11-2.

Aces Wild also played a late game last night against the OD's National Geezers of Colorado.

Baseball conditioning

A conditioning program for baseball is being offered.

The program will start on Oct. 8 and will run Sundays for four weeks from 10 a.m. to noon.

Nutrition, speed, agility and medicine ball training will be covered as well as eye-hand vision training.

Space is limited.
