Lyau edged Chris Tang by 13 seconds for the overall title.
The women's title went to Heather Jorris, who finished in 17:24, 25th overall. Katherine Nichols was second in 7:41.
Some 2,000 runners competed in the event, a fund-raiser for Oahu's public and private schools.
Kop, Hinazumi share Cup
Wendell Kop and Jay Hinazumi both finished at 139 to share top honors in the championship flight of the Mayor's Cup at the Ala Wai Golf Course yesterday.Kop finished with a final round of 70 and Hinazumi carded a final round 71. Joe Phengsavath was third at 142.
The ladies flight winner was 11-year-old Michelle Wie, who shot a 71-140. In second at 147 was Mona Kim Lee.
Centeio wins Billabong jr. title
Joel Centeio of Honolulu, the hottest junior professional surfer in the world this year, added the Billabong Junior Pro title to his trophy cache yesterday in shifty 3-4-foot sets at T Street in San Clemente, Calif.Centeio, 18, won titles at the World Surfing Games in Brazil and the U.S. Amateur Championships in Hawaii earlier this year. He beat out three Californians for the Billabong Junior prize.
Kekoa Bacalso of Mililani finished with a share of seventh place.
Former world champ Pauline Menczer of Australia won the Billabong Girls competition. Keala Kennelly of Kauai was eliminated in the semifinals.
On Saturday, Kauai's Andy Irons won the World Tour's Billabong Pro at nearby Lower Trestles while Sunny Garcia of Waianae increased his World Tour points lead despite bowing out in the quarterfinals.
BYUH gets first PacWest win
The Brigham Young University-Hawaii men's soccer team defeated Northwest Nazarene, 4-0, Saturday. It was the Seasiders first Pacific West Conference victory of the season.Todd Pitts, Jason Myers and David Medrano scored for BYUH and Northwest Nazarene contributed an own goal.
Smith again leads Wahine
Cheryl Smith took first place and University of Hawaii teammate Casey McGuire-Turcotte finished third, leading the Wahine to a second-place finish in the Cross Country Only National Championships at St. Louis Saturday.Smith won the 6K run in 21 minutes, 42 seconds, beating runner-up Ana Martinez by 53 seconds and McGuire-Turcotte by 1:04.
Creighton, with five runners among the top 11 finishers - UH's Lisa Davis was 12th - captured the team title with 39 points, beating out the Wahine by 11.
San Jose State was third, followed by Xavier, Saint Louis, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Evansville and Stetson.
Women's pro football tryouts

New UH-Hilo tennis coaches
Randy Kunimoto and Ryan Ideta were named the new University of Hawaii-Hilo tennis coaches.Kunimoto, a former HiloHigh and Vulcan star, will coach the men's team.
Ideta, who played at Louisiana State and also competed on the Japan Satellite tour, will guide the women's team.
Former UHH tennis coach Kula Oda stepped down to pursue a master's degree at the University of Idaho, where he will serve as men's assistant coach.
Tennis teams in nationals
Three isle teams will compete in USA Tennis League national championship tournament on the mainland Oct. 5-8.The Honolulu team of Gale Sugiyama, Lauren Au, Jade Ching, Jane Cordy, Vicky Tanabe, Barbara Furugen, Kathy Ogino and Janey Yamashita will play in the 2.5 event at Palm Springs, Calif.
The McCully Ducks, made up of Van Lee, Mark Uyehara, Colin Chun, Donald Goo, Kevin Kearns, Roger Mina, Gary Nagata, Reed Okamura, Roland Ramos, Calvin Uratake, Fred Ventura and Craig Nakama will compete in the 2.5 men's event at Palm Springs.
A team from Kaneohe District Park will play in the 4.5 men's tournament at Tucson, Ariz.
Members of that team are Dennis Hida, Albert Dreith, Michael Park, Curtis Kam, Sheldon Kennell, William Liston, Stacy Matsuda, Steven Lee, Leland Watanabe and Tom Roerk.
