Star-BulletinBut don't make plans to attend unless you're part of the Sun Microsystems West contingent of more than 7,400 employees -- primarily top salespeople and systems engineers -- being wined and dined for four days in Honolulu.
The California-based company began its "sales recognition meeting" here yesterday and will finish Wednesday with the John concert. The conference includes employees from as far away as Africa, Russia, Korea and Europe. There's also a contingent from Hawaii, said Cathy Schuman-Brown, Sun events planner.
MC&A Inc. of Honolulu, a convention planning company, helped organize events here.
Sun reportedly is providing its employees about 7,000 rooms from the Westin Hawaii Prince to the Kahala Mandarin. Various meetings will be held at the Blaisdell Arena and Hilton Hawaiian Village, including all that facility's ballroom space.
The company will use the Hawaii Convention Center tomorrow night for a black-tie dinner followed by a concert featuring Michael McDonald, James Ingram and Patty Austin.
Elton John, expected to stay at the Kahala Mandarin, had three sold-out performances at the Blaisdell arena in January.
