Ex-state Sen. Ige's trial set for Feb. 5

The criminal case against former state Sen. Marshall Ige is headed for a Feb. 5 trial.

Circuit Judge Sandra Simms today also denied a new motion by Ige's attorneys to dismiss charges related to alleged campaign spending violations and struck down a request to file an interlocutory appeal of her Aug. 25 ruling allowing the state attorney general's office to proceed with its case.

The attorney general's seven-count complaint alleges that Ige failed to report campaign contributions, failed to disclose campaign debts and accepted improper campaign loans. The allegations stem from the state's investigation into the Kamehameha Schools political activities.

Ige, who has pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charges, has complained that the state targeted him unfairly to justify its costly investigation of the Kamehameha Schools. Ige lost his reelection bid in last month's primary.
