Accounting firms merging on Oahu
Honolulu accounting firms Oshima & Chan LLP and Wikoff Combs & Co. are merging. The combined company will be named Oshima Chan Wikoff & Combs LLC and have 28 employees.Both companies are located on Fort Street and will move into one office by November, according to Isoo Oshima. Oshima & Chan specializes in small businesses, while Wikoff Combs focuses on nonprofit organizations and financial institutions.
Developer builds Mauna Lani shops
The Maryl Group has started developing a 6 1/2-acre commercial project, the Shops at Mauna Lani, at the Mauna Lani Resort on the Big Island.The commercial center, scheduled to open late next year, will include upscale restaurants, entertainment, boutiques and shops on more than 60,000 square feet of retail space.
Kona-based Maryl Group said the shops will carry the theme of a village with tropical landscaping and Hawaiian territorial architecture. The shops will cater to tourists and residents of Waikoloa and the Kohala Coast. Previous projects by Maryl include the $40 million, 25-acre Crossroads shopping complex in Kona and the $25 million Waiakea Center in Hilo.
Former tax director joins Oahu law firm
Former state Tax Director Ray Kamikawa, credited with bolstering government revenues during Hawaii's economic slump, said today he has joined the law firm of Chun Kerr Dodd Beaman & Wong.Kamikawa, who left the department at the end of August, said he will focus on tax planning for businesses in real estate and high technology. Chun Kerr Dodd was founded in 1970 and has served as Hawaii's representative to the American Counsel Association since 1990. Clients include Aloha Tower Development Corp., Honu Group Inc., Outrigger Enterprises Inc., and the state of Hawaii.
Kamikawa's replacement at the Tax Department is Marie Okamura, who had served as deputy director. Kamikawa had worked for Chun Kerr before joining the state.
