The 2 p.m. gathering at St. Patrick Church will include a street procession by celebrants carrying a statue of Mary, the mother of Jesus, and recitation of the rosary.
The Rev. Joseph A. Grimaldi will preside at a 3 p.m. Mass. Individuals may receive the sacrament of reconciliation from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m.
Oct. 7 is the feast day of Our Lady of the Rosary in the church liturgical calendar. The occasion was chosen this year for the annual Marian devotional event sponsored by the Reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Association.
The rosary is a pattern of recited prayers directed at God through Mary. It originated in the 12th century and is still a popular prayer among Catholics.
Ten church choirs will perform in the Lokomaika'i Aha Himeni Oct. 13, and others are being sought as participants. Festival features hymns
in Hawaiian languageChoirs share Hawaiian or Hawaiian-English hymns in the annual event, sponsored by the Hawaiian Arts & Liturgical Inculturation Awareness Committee, which aims to encourage churches to build choir membership and to encourage composers of new hymns.
The 7 p.m. performance at St. John Vianney Church, 920 Keolu Drive, is free and open to the public.
The combined choirs of about 200 voices will sing "Hoomaikai" by Irmgard Aluli, "E Na Lima Hana" by David Haas and Joseph Camacho, and "Lord You Reign in Glory" by Robert Mondoy.
