U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka held a big lead over challenger Art P. Reyes in the Democratic primary.

U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie also had a commanding lead over challenger David L. Bourgoin in the 1st Congressional District Democratic primary.

Also, U.S. Rep. Patsy Mink had a large lead over Democratic challenger Charles "Lucky" Collins in the 2nd Congressional District.

It appeared that Akaka will face former state Sen. John Carroll in the general election.

Abercrombie will face off with either Republican Phil Meyers or Gladys Gerlich in the general.

Mink will face former football star Russ Francis in the general.
