State Rep. Romy Cachola had nearly a 600-vote lead over challenger Dennis Nakasato in the special election to replace Donna Mercado Kim on the City Council.

Kim resigned her seat to run for the state Senate seat vacated by Norman Mizuguchi.

In the 8th Council District, planner Gary Okino led Richard C. Nono 2,221 to 815. They want to fill the seat once held by Mufi Hannemann, who resigned to run for mayor.
