At yesterday's Budget and Long Range Planning Committee meeting, where the list was made public, it did not attract a single speaker or any debate. It was unanimously recommended to the full board.
Some environmental and native Hawaiian advocates had complained earlier that the list had been kept secret.
The Mauna Kea Management Board is intended to be a "community voice" to assist the UH-Hilo chancellor in administering non-astronomical aspects of the mountain.
Named to the committee were:
Heather Cole, manager of The Nature Conservancy's Hanamolio Preserve and former member of the Hawaii Island Burial Council. In other business, the regents recommended the creation of the position of chancellor for the university's Manoa campus.
Arthur Hoke, a retired Hawaii County police officer, who was involved in the creation of the Mauna Kea Science Reserve master plan.
James Kennedy, associate director for both the Gemini North telescope on Mauna Kea and its twin, Gemini South, near La Serena, Chile.
Robert Pacheco, founder of Hawaii Forest & Trail Ltd., a company that specializes in educational nature experiences.
Barbara Robertson, principal of Kamehameha Schools' Hawaii Campus in Hilo.
Barry Taniguchi, president and chief executive officer of KTA Super Stores.
