My experience in the military, 24 years as a teacher with the Department of Education, and six years as a legislator have given me a strong foundation to understand and address the many issues and concerns people have. I am a long time resident of Kaneohe and I have actively participated in community activities.
What are the top three issues facing Hawaii (from most pressing to least)?
The economy, education and environment.
Are changes needed to the civil service system? If so, what are they?
The civil service system needs to be reviewed and updated periodically to meet the needs of the people.

I bring a combination of small business, educational and community involvement experience. My experience and understanding in each area will provide effective and efficient legislation as we enter the 21st century.
What are the top three issues facing Hawaii (from most pressing to least)?
1) Sustaining a healthy tourism industry while pursuing economical diversity, so that everyone can share in the prosperity of the state. 2) Educational challenges: infrastructure, class size, pay raiser, and school safety. 3) Creating a win-win relationship between the needs of the public sector, private sector, and community.
Are changes needed to the civil service system? If so, what are they?
Civil service reform is a hot topic. The three areas that need to be carefully looked at are binding arbitration, the reduction of certain benefits for future hires, and the use of merit principles in deciding raises and promotions.
