The most important issue facing Hawaii is our need to improve our educational system. Many education-related bills last session were not passed. I believe our state should increase the budget to DOE to help provide schools the technology ... for our teachers and our children. My goal ... is to help make sure our children are our state's priority.

a) Residents in the district need to get better wages and salaries. Many are barely getting along. ... The solutions need not be confrontational. b) The general excise tax should be dropped so that residents in the district can have more of their income available for themselves. c) More funds should be made available to provide additional excellent teachers and facilities, which are necessities.

The civil service system should be reviewed and ongoing changes made based upon reasonable expectations. The situation need not be confrontational.

I have worked for the active participation of state employees, their unions and the administration to prioritize government services based upon public needs. Just compensation, enhanced skills, efficient supervision and managerial competence are required to ensure that core services are provided against a standard of value and effectiveness.
