It's about time
Photographs often are the best way to show dramatic changes in Hawaii, providing an easy update on landmarks, persons and events. At other times, however, photos showing minimal changes during the years remind us that the more things change, the more they remain the same. Look for examples of big and little changes every Monday in "It's about time," which will inform, update and prod a few memories.

Honolulu Stadium, known affectionately as the
"Termite Palace," was a fixture at the corner of
King and Isenberg streets for nearly 50 years ...

... The stadium was demolished in December 1976 to
give way to the much bigger and modern Aloha Stadium
in Halawa, opening up space for a neighborhood park. The
last sporting event there was a Pacific Coast League baseball
game between the Hawaii Islanders and Salt Lake City Gulls
25 years ago, on Sept. 8, 1975. The Islanders blanked Salt
Lake 8-0 before a crowd of 7,731. Shown here above is
Salt Lake batter Paul Dade hitting Dave Wehrmeister's
pitch into right field for the final out of the game,
season and era.

Today, Stadium Park is an oasis among a sea of
high-rises in the McCully/Moiliili neighborhood.
