There will be prize drawings, martial arts demonstrations, entertainment by the Tzu-Chi Academy children's choir, hula, and vegetarian food and moon cakes for purchase.
The Moon Festival commemorates the mid-autumn, when the full moon -- this year on Wednesday -- is at its brightest. Bean paste and egg yolk-filled moon cakes are eaten in memory of Chang E, who escaped to the moon with her pet rabbit after drinking too much of an elixir of eternal life belonging to her husband.
The event is a fund-raiser for the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu-Chi Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded to provide charity, medical treatment and cultural and educational development to low-income families worldwide.
The Hawaii foundation hopes to raise $30,000 from food sales to support its free medical clinic at 333 N. King St. Suite 1018, and find bone marrow donors for three individuals awaiting transplants.
