Cayetano will sign a proclamation at 10:15 a.m. in his fifth-floor conference room, and Hirono will host a reception at 10:45 a.m. in the lieutenant governor's conference room on the same floor.
More than 665 events are planned statewide to recognize "A Time for Women in the Next Millennium." Many health issues will be addressed, with emphasis on addiction and women in prison.
Health displays will be shown at the Hawaii State Library, Medical Library at the Queen's Medical Center, Hamilton Library at the University of Hawaii-Manoa, the Judiciary Building and the Department of Health.
The state Health Department is collaborating with the Hawaii State Commission on the Status of Women to organize this month's activities.
Among issues emphasized will be mental health, financial planning, emotional, spiritual and social health, volunteerism and ethnic cultural health.
Women's Health Month calendars are available at the public libraries and other locations.
A public awareness campaign will focus on addictions faced by many women in and out of prison.
The Women's Community Correctional Center for the second year will hold a health fair for inmates. Some inmates will be taken from the facility to attend community sessions on depression, breast and cervical cancer, anorexia, bulimia and thyroid disorders, calcium and osteoporosis, stress, diabetes and others.
