Many golfers sat at home yesterday, watching the opening day of the NFL instead of hitting the links somewhere on Oahu. Lucky day for
Oahu golfersBy Dave Reardon
Star-BulletinIf you were in the recliner instead of on the course, you may have missed your lucky day, ace.
Robbie Yoshimura and Marvin Chang of Honolulu, Paul Murato and George Imose of Aiea and Bruce Harada of Mililani all made holes in one yesterday on Oahu golf courses.
One day. Five aces.
Harada and Murato both got theirs at Ewa Villages.
"We haven't had two in one day in awhile," said Rickey Mendez, assistant operations and golf instructor professional at Ewa Villages. "We kept waiting for a third."
When told about the other three at Honolulu Country Club, Pali Golf Course and Hawaii Prince Golf Club, Mendez expressed surprise.
"Wow! The odds are about 500,000-to-1 to get one in a round," Mendez said. "I guess we should've been playing today."
Colin Kishi of Honolulu played Friday at Hawaii Country Club.
Was he too early for the ace chase?
Not at all.
Kishi hit his driver on the 272-yard, par-4 No. 1 hole into the cup for an extremely rare double eagle hole in one.
