Two University of Hawaii men's basketball games this regular season might be nationally televised, UH coach Riley Wallace said.

Hawaii's road games at WAC opponents Tulsa and Fresno State are the ones being looked at by Fox, which has a contract with the conference.

"It's only under consideration at this point, but it's exciting because it means possible national exposure," Wallace said.

Hawaii is scheduled to play at Tulsa on Jan. 25, a Thursday, and at Rice on Jan. 27, a Saturday. If Fox decides to televise the UH-Tulsa game, Hawaii would have to play Rice on Jan. 25 and Tulsa on Jan. 28, Wallace said.

The Hawaii at Fresno State game is scheduled for Feb. 10. The game would have to be switched to Feb. 11 for Fox to televise.

Wallace said UH's new players -- Mindaugas Burneika (Lithuania), David Hilton (New York), Bosko Radovic (Yugoslavia), Haim Shimonovic (Israel) and Ricky Terrell (Los Angeles) -- can participate in individual and small group (maximum four players) drills with coaches as soon as NCAA-required paperwork and "checkoffs" are completed. This includes things such as drug testing and mandatory insurance.

Organized team practices begin in mid-October with Midnight Madness.

UH plays two home exhibitions, Oct. 31 against the California All-Stars and Nov. 12 against Hawaii-Hilo, before opening the season Nov. 17 against Louisville, also at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Hawaii finished last season 17-12 overall and 5-9 in the Western Athletic Conference.

Meanwhile, UH is still considering rescheduling the Rainbow Classic in future years to the week before Christmas instead of between Christmas and New Year's, but no decision has been made.

Also, Daryl Arata, who handles sports information for the basketball team, is leaving for a job in the public relations department of the NBA's Sacramento Kings.

Before his current stint at UH, Arata worked several years for the Chicago Bulls in public relations and marketing.
