Hawaiian Kennel Club
Bichon Frises join 82 other breeds in this weekend's shows.
More than 450 dogs of 83 different breeds are expected to participate, and most of the entrants will strut their stuff both days. The reason for the back-to-back events is to give Hawaii dogs a chance to score points, since quarantine makes traveling to shows out of state difficult on dog and owner.
All of the six judges for the shows come from out of state, so it's also economical to get as much work out of them as possible.
Followers of the Westminster Dog Show, held Februaries in New York, might want to keep an eye out for one of the judges: Dorothy MacDonald of Carmel, Calif., will be judging Hawaii's Best in Show tomorrow and she's scheduled to be a judge at the next Westminster.
Judging begins at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow and 8:30 a.m. Sunday. Group judging begins at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, with Best in Show following group. Admission to either show is $3 adults, $1 children. Call 262-5236 for more information.
