There will be pony rides for children, horse rides for adults, and a whole lot of prancing going on at the ninth annual Benefit Horse Show taking place 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Maunawili Farm in Kailua. A day at the stables
Funds raised from A Country Store and Trading Post Flea Market open both days will benefit the Hawaiian Humane Society's work protecting horses and other companion animals.
Admission is free. Events are:
Saturday
9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Horse-jumping competitions.10 a.m. and 1 p.m.: "Meet a Horse" veterinarian demonstration introduces horse behavior and physiology.
10 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Pony and horse rides, plus Kiddie Corral games for children.
11 a.m. and 2 p.m.: Horseshoe demonstration with farrier Chuck Uhlir.
Noon: Bridle-less jumping exhibition featuring Olga Anderson and the Appaloosa Groucho Marx, and Amy Quinlan on Mea Graziosa.
1:30 to 5 p.m.: Horse-jumping competitions repeats.
Sunday
9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Horse -jumping competitions.10 a.m. and 1 p.m.: "Meet a Horse" veterinarian demonstration.
10 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Pony and horse rides plus Kiddie Corral .
11 a.m. and 2 p.m.: Horseshoe demonstration.
12:30 p.m.: Demonstration of musical dressage by Martha McDaniel on her trakaner mare Kapstadt.
