U.S. women’s
basketball team to
visit NikeTown

Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie and Chamique Holdsclaw will be among the members of the U.S. women's Olympic basketball team appearing at NikeTown in Waikiki on Sunday.

The players and coach Nell Fornter will sign autographs and be available for photos with fans. Also in attendance will be players Natalie Williams, Katie Smith and Dawn Staley.

The event is scheduled from 2-3 p.m. The first 200 children will receive a Nike mini-basketball.

In a rematch of the 1996 gold medal game, the U.S. will play Brazil at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center. The U.S. will then face the R. William Jones Cup Team of top U.S. collegiate players, at 11 a.m. on Sunday, also at the Sheriff Center.

Tickets are $7 for each game.

SOFTBALL TEAM AT NIKETOWN TODAY:

The U.S. women's Olympic softball team, the defending gold medalists, will make an appearance today at NikeTown in Waikiki.

The event is scheduled from 4-5:30 p.m. Team members will sign autographs, donate softball equipment to the Boys and Girls Club of Honolulu and raffle off autographed bats.

There also will be a ticket giveaway for Saturday's game against the Women's Professional Softball League All-Stars at the University of Hawaii. The game is at 3 p.m. at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

The U.S. team will again take on the WPSL All-Stars in a doubleheader Sunday, beginning at 1 p.m. On Sept. 6, the U.S. plays the University of Hawaii in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.

The U.S. concludes its pre-Olympic tour against Hawaii Pacific in a single game at 2 p.m., Sept. 7, also at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
