Vaccine will be available this season for people at high risk for complications from flu, but fewer doses and distribution delays are expected, the state Health Department reported.

Manufacturing problems have occurred, reducing the supply of vaccine, the Health Department said.

A variety of health agencies and vaccine manufacturers are cooperating to facilitate availability of the vaccine.

People at highest risk for complications from influenza should schedule a flu shot with their doctors when vaccine is available, the Health Department advised.

This is especially important for young children at high risk who are receiving an influenza vaccination for the first time.

Others at high risk are:

Adults 65 or older.
Residents of nursing homes.
Adults and children with chronic lung or heart disease, diabetes, kidney or blood disease, or immune system problems.
