Music with a bang

Have dinner then let someone else do the driving to a concert of unique music by Bang On A Can All-Stars. The ensemble of six musicians will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at Leeward Community College Theatre.

Although the group's name suggests noise, its music is described as part classical, part rock and part jazz. Its members play cello, bass, piano, guitar, clarinet, saxophone and percussion. The group will come to Oahu after a performance at the Sydney Opera House for the 2000 Summer Olympics.

For $70, join the Bang On A Can Caravan. Concert-goers get a complete dinner at Brew Moon Restaurant & Microbrewery, bus transportation to the concert with on-board music commentary by Alan Bunin and special concert seating.

Admission for the concert only is $24 and $19 for students. Tickets are available at UH Campus Center or by calling 956-6878.

The event is presented by UH Outreach College, Hawai'i Public Radio and Outrigger Hotels & Resorts.
