Hawaii Beat
The University of Hawaii women's volleyball team was ranked No. 5 in yesterday's first poll of the season, something that surprised Wahine coach Dave Shoji. UH Wahine
ranked No. 5"I don't know where we really belong,'' said Shoji, who begins his 26th season. "I see some very good teams ranked behind us, people like Nebraska (No. 6), USC (No. 7) and Pepperdine (No. 8).
"I guess people think we're going to be pretty good. We have areas we need to work on but I think we'll be competitive.''
UCLAis ranked No. 1 in the preseason poll.
The Wahine, who received two first-place votes, meet the Bruins on Sept. 5, the final night of the Hawaiian Airlines Classic.
