While the eastbound freeway is open again, University and some Kapiolani on and off ramps, eastbound and westbound, will be resurfaced, starting Sunday night. The work will continue through Thursday night -- one ramp a night.
Then, resurfacing of the westbound lanes will begin Aug. 20 with the freeway westbound closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The $23.4 million H-1 highway project also will include some improvements on overpasses and adjacent streets after work on waterlines is complete.
Marilyn Kali, state Department of Transportation spokesperson, said today that the eastbound resurfacing "seems to have gone very well."
"We've had more questions about things than complaints, and I think people realize that the work had to be done, and there's just no good time."
She said she was surprised to receive a number of calls about how smooth the freeway is. "They didn't realize what it was like to drive on such a nice road, especially when they hit a section that hasn't been done for a while."
