Hawaii's League leads USA

St. Louis School senior-to-be Brandon League turned in the USA Junior National Team's third consecutive stellar pitching performance at the 2000 IBAF World Junior Championships on Monday as the Americans beat Team China, 9-0.

Team USA remained in first place in Pool A of the AAA World Championships with a 3-0 record and plays Team Korea today.

League (1-0) fanned 11 and did not allow more than one batter to reach base in any inning. League did not walk a hitter in the game and limited China (2-1) to two singles.

"(Catcher Tony) Richie told me that my fastball was really moving out there," League said.

"I was able to get ahead with that and then used my slider to get the strikeouts. It felt really awesome to stretch out and pitch a game like this."

Sasada leads by four

Makena pro Brian Sasada took a four-stroke lead over Hilo's Kevin Hayashi going into today's final round of the Aloha Section PGA AT&T Stroke-Play Championship.

Sasada shot a 4-under 68 for a 36-hole score of 137 at the Mauna Kea Golf Course on the Big Island. Hayashi, who shared the first-round lead with Sasada, shot a par-72 for a 141 total.
