The 10th and final race of the 12th biennial Kenwood Cup International Offshore Series is underway after an excellent start from Diamond Head yesterday at 6 p.m.

Tradewinds of approximately 15 knots sent 27 of the original 29 crews on their way. Only Zamboni and Glama! are missing after their collision during the "Champagne Mumm" No. 9 race yesterday. Zamboni is out of action and under repair and Glama! withdrew herself from the race.

Last night's race followed a 150-mile course to Maui and back. Named the "Molokai Race," yachts traveled from Diamond Head across the Kaiwi Channel to Molokai. Passing the world's highest seacliffs on the northern shore of Molokai, they traveled on to Maui for a turnaround off Honolua Bay and then back to Diamond Head.

Racing continued throughout the night with the first boats home expected at around 8:30 a.m. today if they are to be on record time.

Heading into this 10th and final race, team Australia is narrowly in the lead, ahead of New Zealand, and USA Red -- a distant third.

In the individual class standings, America's Esmeralda, Samba Pa Ti and Charade, along with Japan's Karasu and Australia's Smile, are on track for their respective honors.
