Hall adds flavor
to clambake

Anita Hall was hot singing with Nueva VidaMug shot at a clambake on the Hilton Lagoon green last weekend. The clambake opened a three-day wine festival at the Hilton, a benefit for Rehab Hospital. Kona Carmack, with mom, Billie Gabriel Zito, said she'd like to have anita sing at her wedding. Kona, who speaks Hebrew, is studying and modeling in Israel and is engaged to Oren Isascharov. Anita has gigs tonight, Wednesday and Aug. 23 at Gordon Biersch ...

Nostalgia time with Hinkley

Nostalgia was heavy at Bobby Hinkley's 70th birthday party at his Maunalani Circle home Sunday. Bobby, undisputed ringleader of the lower Alewa Drive Boys in the early '40s, reminisced about those World War II days with former cohorts, including tough Don Fowler, athletic Strat Whiting and yours truly. Gutsy Roy Hiram, who became a great San Jose running back and Kauai police chief, lived nearby with his followers but that's another story. It was a three-way birthday party with Kimiko Uemoto and Ray Westfall, 65, sharing honors with Bobby, a former Hawaiian Airlines and air guard pilot who recently retired from the FAA. Guests included Jack and Karin Campbell, Auwe and Sam Morris, Jean Wilson, Mary Foster, Anita Whiting, Billy Sage, Gerry DeBenedetti, ranny galt and Roberta Westfall and his daughter, Mandy. Bobby's dad, Vern, joined the Star-Bulletin in 1921. He was managing editor when he died in 1952. Bobby's mom was the former Irene Ahrens. August Ahrens Elementary was named after her father, the Waipahu sugar plantation manager. Bobby's daughter, Lisa, is married to Christian Twigg-Smith, a union of sorts of two newspaper families. Lisa and brothers, Robert Jr. and Vern, put on the party. Evelyn Sage entertained, displaying hot dance steps with hubby, Dr. Bill Sage ...

Eddie Murphy's genius soars in the latest Klumps saga, "Nutty Professor II." Murphy plays five members of the overweight Klump family and two other characters. Early scenes are very funny as is some of the later action. The picture, plenty gross at times, lags in the middle ... "Rent" actor Brian Love loves golf and has been hitting isle courses. The hot musical plays through Aug. 13 at the Concert Hall ...

The 49ers lost, 20-0, to the Patriots Monday night but linebacker Jeff Ulbrich and receiver Dwight Carter, rookies from Hawaii, did fine, particularly Ulbrich. S.F. Chronicle writer Nancy Gay wrote: "Certainly there was some strong play. Ulbrich, the guy with the fastest learning curve on defense, had six tackles starting in place of the injured Ken Norton." Team G.M. Bill Walsh also singled out Ulbrich's play. Carter snagged passes of 20 and 15 yards. Comedian Dennis Miller, in the broadcast booth with Al Michaels and Dan Fouts, will improve after more workouts. Hopefully, so will the 49ers ... Cheers to Don Murphy for raising $90,000 for UH football at Murphy's Pigskin Pigout Thursday ...

Inouye spotted at Kincaid's

Sen. Dan Inouye and members of his staff dined at Kincaid's Thursday. With him were retired Maj. Gen. Alexis Lum, Mary Lou Jardine and Barbara Sakamoto. I was among those in the eatery who congratulated the senator on receiving the Congressional Medal of Honor, well deserved and long overdue. Years ago on a D.C. visit, Inouye walked me into the Watergate hearings. Flashbulbs lit up the area as we entered the room. The hearings rocketed Inouye into national prominence ...
