The Hawaii State Public Library System is hosting free informational programs on how to prepare for a hurricane at a number of public libraries during August and September. Libraries will

Four officials from the Central Pacific Hurricane Center will be the guest speakers: Jim Weyman, director of the center, and the Hawaii and Central Pacific Area Manager for the Weather Service; Tom Heffner, the center's warning coordination meteorologist; David Mark, the center's data acquisition program manager; and Kevin Kodama, the center's senior service hydrologist.
The center is now part of the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Honolulu. The center issues all tropical cyclone watches, warnings and advisories for the state.
The 40-minute presentation will include information on when, where and how tropical cyclones form; tropical cyclone definitions, tropical depressions and what to do to prepare and protect from the devastating effects of tropical cyclones.
