Carter signs
$1.2 million deal
with Heat

Associated Press

MIAMI -- Call Anthony Carter a millionaire.

The former University of Hawaii basketball star re-signed with the Miami Heat yesterday. It's a one-year exception contract worth $1.2 million.

Carter was a free agent and could have signed with any team.

"I always knew I wanted to be here and whatever it took for me to sign that's what I was going to do," Carter said. "I'm going to do all I can to win a championship here."

It was thought Carter would opt out of Miami, since he could make more money elsewhere. The Heat only had the $1 million exception to the salary cap to offer to Carter, a rookie last season who played well when starting point guard Tim Hardaway was injured.

Carter is due in Hawaii next week to take part in youth basketball camps.
